Anatomy of a Diamond

Diamonds come in different shapes and sizes however few structural elements are common among all diamonds. Understanding these will help better understand the properties and value of the diamond. Table: The topmost part and the largest facet of the diamond. The size of the table determines how much light can enter the diamond. Crown: Every component above the girdle of the diamond. Girdle: The widest part of the diamond where the crown and the pavilion connect. Depending on the ring setting the girdle is hidden on can be seen. Pavilion: Every component below the girdle. It starts at the girdle and ends at the culet. Culet: It is the bottom part of the diamond's pavilion.
